Samaritans Crisis Line receive an early Christmas gift

A new concept on the social fundraising scene has given the Samaritans Crisis Line something to smile about this Christmas. As the proud recipients of the recent Dine for Life Summer dinner, a fundraising event where attendees simultaneously dined at different restaurants across Perth before meeting up for an after party held at the Malt Supper Club, the Samaritans Crisis Line will receive an amount just shy of $20,000.
"This is a wonderful gift for our organisation" says Samaritans Crisis Line Director, Kevin Crombie "and to come at a time of year when our service is in greater demand than ever".
The event was strongly supported by local western suburb restaurants amongst others. "Being involved in the Dine for Life we found that not only we were promoting mid week dining in Perth, but we were also supporting an incredible charity who work tirelessly to ensure that they are always available to those in need." said Sarah Clark from Mosmans Restaurant.
The money raised from the evening will help promote the Samaritans Crisis Line service through a series of radio advertisements for those in need of someone to talk to over the Christmas, New Year period.
"At Christmas a focus on family and togetherness can exacerbate feelings of loneliness for those without families or estranged from their families" says Dr Monique Robinson, Psychologist at the University of WA, "this is often compounded by the holiday closures of various businesses and infrastructure - leaving people with a lack of available activities and services."
"People needn't feel there is no one to turn to this holiday season" says Kevin from the Samaritans Crisis Line "our volunteers will be continuing to provide our service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week over the Christmas and New Year period."
And 2011 is set to be a big year for the Samaritans Crisis Line as they announce a new Patron and Ambassador and launch their own Friends of Samaritans membership early in the New Year.
