We welcome volunteers from all walks of life.

“I became a Samaritan to help others, but I have got so much more in return”
Why become a Samaritan?

- You will develop listening skills that can help improve all the relationships in your life, both personal and professional.
- You will meet new people and make new friends.
- The Samaritans Crisis Line hold regular volunteer social events.
- There is opportunity to expand your skills by being involved in other areas of the organisation such as training, fundraising, events and more.

Can I become a Samaritan?
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Lisa is 14 and pregnant. Should she have an abortion?
- Eric is 26 and HIV-positive. Should he tell his family?
- Lily is 43. Her husband has a girlfriend in China. Should she leave him?
- Albert is 68, and in constant pain from cancer. Would it be right for him to take an overdose?
If you answered a definitive yes or no to these questions, then being a Samaritan on the phones is probably not for you, however you may consider becoming a non-telephone volunteer. But if you weren’t sure, if you can listen to people tell their stories without passing judgements, please do contact us.
What about becoming a non-telephone volunteer?
We understand that the telephone volunteer work our Samaritans undertake may not be for everyone. This is why we also have a variety of non-telephone volunteer positions such as assisting with
- Administration duties
- Fundraising and event management
- Raising awareness and community events
- House and garden maintenance
- Friends of Samaritans
- Plus more
We need you now, so please don’t hesitate to become a volunteer.
