Media

Contact

The media is important to the Samaritans in terms of reaching out to the community and generating awareness about the service we provide. Over the years, from print media to radio to television, the Samaritans have required the expertise of the media to publicise and promote the good work done by the Samaritans.

Some areas where the Samaritans would benefit from media help are: recruitment of volunteers; our need for corporate sponsorships and funding and informing the public of the services provided by the Samaritans.

After serving Western Australia for 40 years, The Samaritans are focused on creating a stronger corporate identity and profile which has been limited by the common confusion with The Good Samaritans. This is one area where our organisation could benefit from media involvement.

Suicide Prevention

The most important message that the media can deliver on our behalf relates to suicide prevention. Giving a caller the opportunity to discuss feelings relating to suicide is a very powerful tool. For many callers, this is the first opportunity they are given to talk about how they feel on this matter.
