Prisons
Suicide in custody is not limited by geography; prison systems throughout the world struggle with the problem of inmate suicide. Some specific stressors include recent loss of stabilising resources; severe guilt or shame over offences, approaching court date, fear of the unknown, isolation from family, exacerbated over time by loss of relationships, conflicts with inmates, victimization, and legal frustration.
Since 2004, inmates have been able to access Samaritan phone services from all WA prisons.
