“For me, the thought that there are those who feel they have no one, just no one, who they can tell how they are feeling in that exact moment of crisis in their life is unthinkable.

I don’t believe there is such thing as a typical caller, all ages, all backgrounds, but they do all have one thing in common – no matter who or what they have in their life, the moment they pick up the phone to call us they need us to answer them, they need to hear ‘Hello Samaritans’. To be trusted by a complete stranger with the most personal and often intensely painful feelings and stories of their lives is a privilege and honour. Our callers are often amazed that the Samaritans are volunteers; that they choose to be there – the value of that concept to our callers is priceless.”
